Last weekend I went to Waterfront to see fantastic beasts 2, and my friend and I had lunch at Honest John’s Bar & Restaurant in Homestead. This restaurant is located near the movie theater, and the taste is better than I expected. There are limited food options near the movie theater, and most of them are fast food or overpraised. Waitress are friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. It offers dinner/lunch, brunch, and drinks. A small and simple menu, but unique. I see some food that I never saw in those places. All in all, Honest John’s Bar & Restaurant is a nice place to dine out with friends and family.
The wall is dark blue, more like powder blue under warm lights. The inner decoration is close to rustic-industrial style, with iron chairs and iron-grey wooden tables. Warm lights are widely applied on the wall, and it balances the calm air. There is a bar table in the lobby, with two television in front of chairs. It recorded a glory time in Homestead. Homestead, on the south bank of the Monongahela River, was first settled by Europeans in 1770 [1]. One hundred years later, this area was developed rapidly, transferring from agricultural to iron mill. In 1900, 7,000 employees worked in the plants. After the end of World War II, people left the area because of a decline in the steel-making industry [2]. Iron mill closed in 1986, and it was replaced by Waterfront shopping mall.
My friend ordered tacos with fries, and I ordered shrimp and grits. I give five stars to fries: it’s freshly made, with cheese and parsley on the top. The surface crispy, and the inner is soft and creamy. Highly recommend. Tacos, in my friend’s word, “is not as good as the one on campus.” I never try tacos on campus (near Sichuan gourmet), so I can’t tell if it’s true or not. Meat is a bit dry. Hard to say I like shrimp and grits: it didn’t fit my taste. These two dishes are in Big Eats, and we only eat half of them. For people who are not starving, I suggest you order something else.
