Nicky’s Thai Kitchen is a Thai restaurant that has three locations in Pittsburgh. One location is on the Northside, another in the North Hills and the other is Downtown. I have only been to the Downtown location but have heard great reviews about the North Shore location as well. The Downtown location is excellent especially if you are looking for that downtown restaurant feel without spending a whole lot of money. The restaurant is very clean and the dishes are definitely a step up from your average restaurant dishes. The curry and rice are served in gold bowls which are elegant instead of tacky. The atmosphere is perfect in my opinion, as the smell of food fills the whole air and the volume is not too loud but is also not too quiet. It is kept at a comfortable level.

Their menu consists of typical Thai specialties such as Pad Thai, Green Curry, Red Curry and more. I have only been to this location twice but luckily, I tried a different food upon every visit. On my first visit I went with an option that in my opinion, is pretty safe if you aren’t super into Thai food or aren’t familiar with the cuisine. I ordered the chicken Pad Thai. Pad Thai is a dish made up of rice noodles, vegetables, egg, and a couple of other miscellaneous ingredients. The standout factor of Pad Thai is the peanut taste that it has. My Pad Thai came out nice and hot, and the chicken wasn’t overly dry, as it can be from some places.
Upon my second visit, I decided to go with the green curry with shrimp. The curry comes with rice but seeing as another person at my table also ordered a dish that came with rice, we got a single bowl of rice which we had to share amongst us. If you aren’t too big on sharing your food, you can just ask for your rice to come individually. I don’t normally eat green curry too much, but the green curry from Nicky’s Thai Kitchen was very tasty. It contained eggplant, basil leaves, broccoli, bell peppers, green peas, carrots, green beans, coconut milk and green curry paste. The different ingredients meshed perfectly together. However, one thing that I like about going out to eat is being able to bring home left overs. At Nicky’s, I found that the portion of curry was not enough to take left overs home with me so I was a little disappointed.
Overall, I would return to this location and may even venture out to try the one on the Northside or in the North Hills.
