Over the weekend, my friends and I ventured off campus in search of a good burger, so we decided to go to the Burgatory. The location that I went to is the one located directly across from Heinz Field. I went late on a Sunday night so the restaurant was pretty dead, but I can guarantee that when Pitt or the Steelers are playing, the place is filled with energy.
The journey there was an easy and enjoyable one. Any of the 61 or 71 Port Authority buses can be taken downtown, and then if it is warm outside (or you have a warm coat) I recommend getting off at the 6th and Liberty stop. Once getting off, you can walk across the Roberto Clemente bridge to get to the restaurant. It is a bit of a walk, but because of the view I think it is worth it.
Like Five Guys, the Burgatoy is also a “build your own burger” type of restaurant. You are given a sheet of paper with all the burger options and selections are made by hand and later given to the server. They offer nine different burger options which include, hormone free beef, dry aged wagyu, grass fed elk, natural bison, and a vegan veggie burger which contains cashews. I always go with the hormone free beef, but I do know a couple of people who have gotten the bison burger and have enjoyed it. On top of the many burger options, they have various buns such as grain, potato, pretzel, and my favorite, brioche. This past weekend I got a beef burger with an angel dust rub topped with farmhouse cheddar cheese, roasted garlic mayo, a fried egg, and dill pickle chips all on a brioche bun. The angel dust rub is simple rub made out of garlic powder, salt, and pepper. I was able to really enjoy this burger because my burger was hot, moist, and did not fall apart.

To go with my burger, I decided to get a nutter butter milkshake. I really enjoyed the shake because it truly tasted like a nutter butter instead of a regular peanut butter shake. Overall, I do recommend the Burgatory but I do advise to be cautious. With the way that their menu is set up, it is very easy to spend more money than you anticipated, at least that is what always happens with me.

That’s a boat load of burger options that sounds delicious

I love me some Burgatory. I’m always overwhelmed by the number of choices on the build your own burger menu that I always go for the pre-made ones. If you’re a fan of sriracha and seafood, I recommend trying The Crabshack!
