Located up the street from Fuku Tea and directly across the street from Sushi Fuku is Oishii Bento. Oishii offers both Korean and Japanese cuisine and prides themselves on being a “healthier alternative to other restaurants in the Pittsburgh Area.” I love Oishii because I can always count on a fair priced, hot, and delicious meal to satisfy my hunger. On Yelp, Oishii has 4 out of 5 stars with 269 reviews.
The most recent review is from 28 days ago by Lucy C.. The review reads “Oishii will always be my go to comfort food. I’ve tried a variety of their dishes but the Chicken Bowl will always be my favorite. Plus tax, it is around $7 and they give a very large portion. Their Bulgogi Bowl is also really good. I wouldn’t recommend getting their sushi-it’s good but nothing special. They have a small seating area upstairs so it is pretty limited. It is usually busy during meal times but the wait is definitely worth it. They also provide free barley tea!”
I can confirm that Oishii is around $7 and they do give a more than fair portion! The theme of most restaurants with quality food these days seems to be charge as much as possible for as little food as possible so the portions and price are one thing that really make Oishii stand out. My go to is the beef teriyaki bowl. It is lightly seasoned sliced beef, teriyaki sauce, perfectly cooked mushrooms, broccoli, and carrots served over white rice.

Along with teriyaki bowls, Oishii also offers a bento box. A bento box contains rice, sides, and a choice of kimchi, salad or miso soup. Kimchi is a traditional Korean dish that is made up of fermented vegetables and has an eye catching bright red color. For a bento box, you have the options of a bulgogi bento, spicy pork bento, galbi bento, teriyaki bento, ton-katsu bento, chicken katsu bento, or oishii bento. When it comes to bentos, I like to go with the bulgogi bento. Bulgogi is marinated thin slices of beef that has a hint of sweetness. If you don’t want a bento box, you can simply get a bowl instead. The bowl contains the protein of your choice along with white rice. For all these options, you can ask to make it spicy and can even add a fried egg on top! For vegetarians and vegans, they also have a vegetable teriyaki bowl as well as a tofu teriyaki bowl. Unlike other restaurants, I can always count on my food coming out steaming hot.

As Lucy stated in her review, Oishii does offer seating upstairs but it is very small and limited with about eight two-seater tables. Around meal times, it is almost impossible to get a seat in the restaurant so always have a backup plan of where to eat in mind. While you’re waiting for your food, make sure to look at your receipt. On every receipt is a coupon for fifty cents off any bubble tea from Chick’n Bubbly which is located directly next door. Great food AND a coupon for bubble tea? Count me in!
If you’ve already been to Oishii Bento, what’s your go to?
